We have a different photo theme bimontly and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations around Austin. It's a great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer, and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from amateurs to professionals. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

Complete beginner? Please complete a Beginners Photography Class before attending a regular group session. This is a 3 hour structured workshop where you’ll learn the basics of using your camera with more 1-on-1 time with the instructor. Scroll down for dates.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

What’s involved? Each session starts with an introduction to the theme, and the photography instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You’ll then have time to take lots of photos, with the instructor present to answer any questions. You’ll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We’re a social bunch!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Austin Photography Facebook Group to share your photos after the session.

Black & White Photography - Auditorium Shores - 7am - 2 hours
Black & White can be an interesting way to strip back your photography and focus on the basics. We will be learning to "see" a subject in black and white. Humans see in colour, so ignoring the colour takes practice, but learning to predict how your shots will look in "grayscale" or "monochrome" is a brilliant skill to have. Book in to join the instructor after the group for a 1.5 hour critique, select, and edit session where you can develop your post shoot skills.

Colors Of Fall - Bull Creek Greenway - 9am - 2 hours
Fall is upon us and that means it’s time to take some memorable foliage photos. The turning leaves create vibrant multicolor scenes that almost photograph themselves. The vivid gold, orange, green, and red colors provide many photographic possibilities, but it’s up to the photographer to capture and frame these elements into a pleasing piece of art. Join the instructor after the group for a 1.5-hour critique, select, and edit session where you can develop your post-shoot skills. Bring your tablet or laptop. Learn how to critique your own photos, select the best image and then edit them to best effect. Your photos will be evaluated along with a lot of encouragement. You will have a better understanding of the larger “picture” improving your skills as a photographer. Our instructor finds a suitable meeting place to go after the regular meetup. It is essential to have some knowledge of your equipment for our meetups. If you are a complete beginner please look at booking Beginners Photography workshop first.

Lighting class- Matthew is amazing! Great location with lots of artistic shot possibilities. He’s very organized and ready to teach us even have refreshments and great models for us. He’s got great teaching method, he shows us pictures of the concept we’re trying to accomplish, then we go , shoot away, come back and he views , critique and tell us how we can improve our work! I’m a visual learner so this works great for me. He even edits the photos on his Mac and shows us some photoshop skills. Simply amazing! I totally recommend him and I can’t wait for next class from him.
